Switzerland Adds New Internet Domain .SWISS

A new Internet domain name, .SWISS, will become available next year, the Swiss federal government announced on Thursday.

The new name was announced as part of the Ordinance on Internet Domains, the government said.

It said .SWISS domain names “must serve and promote the interests of the Swiss community”.

Entities that are based in Switzerland or who have a “special connection with the country” may request a domain name with the new suffix through the federal communications office (Ofcom), which will serve as a registry.
